What research says about Acetic Acid 0.6%

This is a dilute solution of acetic acid (0.6%) in sterile water, used as an acidic diluent for reconstituting some peptides. The solute, acetic acid, is a simple carboxylic acid (CH3COOH).

Acetic acid lowers the pH of the diluent; suppliers describe this as aiding dissolution of some peptides, but no study supporting this was cited here.

No pharmacopoeial or labelled product at 0.6% was identified; the only labelled sterile acetic acid solution found in DailyMed is a 0.25% irrigation (Baxter).

    Peptide reconstitution arithmetic, worked through

Concentration is the amount of peptide divided by the volume of diluent. Everything else in reconstitution arithmetic follows from that one division, as the worked examples below show.

    Storing lyophilised and reconstituted peptides

Sealed, freeze-dried peptides are usually kept frozen, at −20 °C, away from light. Once dissolved, the published supplier inserts cited here mostly advise against storing the solution for more than a day.
