Thymalin Lyophilised Peptide Extract

Thymalin is a polypeptide preparation obtained from calf thymus and described by the Khavinson group in St Petersburg. It is classed as a thymic peptide immunomodulator and has been studied in small, largely Russian-language clinical and cell-culture studies. Thymalin is supplied as a lyophilised (freeze-dried) powder in a sealed vial, in 10 mg, priced RM 160. No certificate of analysis has been published for the batch on sale yet, so no purity figure is claimed on this page. Ships within 2 working days of payment. Sold for laboratory research use only, not for human or veterinary use.

What research says about Thymalin

Thymalin is a polypeptide preparation obtained from calf thymus and described by the Khavinson group in St Petersburg. It is classed as a thymic peptide immunomodulator and has been studied in small, largely Russian-language clinical and cell-culture studies.

Its activity has been attributed to short component peptides, with a 2023 study proposing that the dipeptides Lys-Glu (KE) and Glu-Trp (EW) in Thymalin reduce IL-1beta, IL-6 and TNF-alpha synthesis in human peripheral blood mononuclear cells in vitro.

Investigational as a research material in this record; no regulatory approval status was verified and the evidence base is small and from one research group.

Cited studies

  1. Thymalin and its KE and EW dipeptides reduced IL-1beta, IL-6 and TNF-alpha synthesis 1.4-6.0-fold in human PBMCs in an in vitro inflammation model, and modelling predicted binding to AKT1/AKT2-related genes.

  2. A report from the developing group described lower mortality over follow-up in older patients given Thymalin and Epithalamin than in controls; the abstract does not describe blinding, so it should be read with caution.
