PT-141 (bremelanotide) is a synthetic cyclic heptapeptide analogue of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone. It is classified as a melanocortin receptor agonist and has been studied in animal behavioural models and clinical trials.
Binds central melanocortin receptors; in female rats it selectively increased solicitational sexual behaviours without altering lordosis or generalised motor activity (Pfaus 2004).
Approved in the US (FDA) as Vyleesi (Cosette Pharmaceuticals) for acquired, generalised hypoactive sexual desire disorder in premenopausal women, per the DailyMed label.
