What research says about Glutathione
Glutathione is an endogenous tripeptide (gamma-glutamyl-cysteinyl-glycine) and the most abundant low-molecular-weight thiol in cells. It is studied as an antioxidant, a conjugation substrate for detoxification and a marker of cellular redox state.
Glutathione reduces oxidants via glutathione peroxidases, conjugates electrophiles via glutathione S-transferases, and is regenerated by glutathione reductase, which together maintain cellular redox homeostasis.
Endogenous compound; a randomised placebo-controlled study of daily oral glutathione in 54 adults reported increased glutathione in several body compartments, and clinical uses beyond that were not verified here.
